M. Pax and her telescope, Orson Bradbury! :3

1. What inspired your short story? Where did the idea come from?

I saw an illustration on Pinterest of a dragon as a spaceship, and I had read that Earth having a new ice age in the future was the new ‘thing’. The rest fell into place around those two pieces.

2. Had you heard of solarpunk before this call for submission? What do you like about the genre?

No, I hadn’t. I like the hopefulness of it and the pop of art nouveau. It’s a genre I’ll definitely explore further.

3. What genre do you usually write in? Talk about your projects!

Sci Fi and Fantasy are what I write. My stories are usually a mashup including elements of both.
I have two ongoing series : 1) The Backworlds, a space opera adventure. Humans have been bioengineered in the future to survive on different planets. Humble people have to rise to be heroes in this series. 2) The Rifters, an urban fantasy with steampunk and science fiction elements. In a rural town in Oregon, a rift opens every summer, letting monsters into our universe. A band of protectors, The Rifters, fight to stop them.
The first books in both of these series can be read for free. I have other books and stories out.

4. What do you love the most about dragons?

I love the opposition dragons present – elegant and fierce, noble and terrifying, huge and graceful. Their wings can take us anywhere.
5. What do you do when you’re not writing? Any day jobs or passion?

Husband Unit and I love to travel around Oregon, exploring and taking photos. We sometimes join the Central Oregon Paranormal Explorers Society in hunting ghosts. I volunteer at Pine Mountain Observatory every summer as a star guide.
6. What’s your favorite book or TV show? Why?

One of my favorite shows was Firefly. I loved the idea of regular people trying to survive in a harsh universe. Many of its ideas formed the foundation of my Backworlds series.
7. Where can we find more of your work?
